About Drummoyne Occasional Child Care Inc.
  • Our Philosophy

Drummoyne occasional care prides itself on being a community based organisation that provides parents with a safe, affordable, high-quality, flexible child care environment.
We aim to provide a warm, safe, secure and nurturing environment. We place diligent focus on building trusting relationships with all children which in turn enhances each child’s sense of belonging and wellbeing. At the core, we ensure each child feels nurtured, secure and a sense of being as we recognise that this fundamentally supports each child’s holistic development. At DOCC we strive to foster the development of each child as an individual who can grow their separate identity and qualities while they become themselves and contributing to the community
Developmental child care emphasise all areas of a child’s development, including physical, cognitive, social, emotional. At DOCC you can expect to find a combination of hands-on activities, and child-directed and educated activities. Our developmental child care approach is interactive, and has an informal sense. Learning through play is the central focus of our curriculum, with the role of the educator to provide security, stimulation, support, limits, and affection. Through play experiences and activities the centre promotes the development of Fine Motor and Gross Motor Skills, Cognitive Stimulation, Language, Social and Emotional and Creative Development. At DOCC we offer a flexible routine to cater for children needs and interests allowing time for exploring, discovery and imaginary play. This approach helps to facilitate the child’s interests and intellectual curiosity.
We strongly believe each child is a unique individual with their own needs, interests, abilities and backgrounds. We believe that at all children are active and capable learners; creating and building knowledge, self-image, confidence and independence through their daily experiences. By nurturing in each child, this encourages a positive approach to themselves, their sense of responsibility, self-discipline and self-esteem. At DOCC, every child has an equal value to our program, and we actively work to support full inclusion of children with diverse abilities and disabilities, as well as those from all socio-economic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
  • We acknowledge the first Nations of Australia, we honor the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and understanding to help enrich our learning experiences.
Our professional educators help to nurture and fulfil each child’s learning development path and natural curiosity. As Educators we value one another’s contributions and reflect upon ourselves and value the need for ongoing professional development/training. An adequate number of qualified Educators are employed to ensure a Educators to child ratio is maintained at all times, with un qualified educators not comprising this ratio but being encouraged as additional help only.
We recognise and believe that each child’s family is the most important influence on a child’s learning and behaviour. We believe that by supporting and developing a strong relationship with family members it is vital to the nurturing and care of the child.
We look at our service as part of a broader community in the Drummoyne and surrounding areas and see ourselves by establishing and maintaining a sense of belonging in the community.
  • What We Provide

The purpose of DOCC is to provide quality care for children in the Drummoyne and surrounding areas.
The centre provides a caring and stimulating environment for children 0-5 years. Activities include playdough, painting, puzzles, water play, cooking, music and stories.
  • How DOCC Operates

DOCC is a non-profit incorporated body. The centre is managed by parents elected to the Management Committee at our Annual General Meeting.
We receive funding from the Department of Community Services and are supported by Drummoyne Council, however this only accounts for approximately 1O% of our expenses. DOCC is licensed under the Department of Community Services and therefore must meet their regulations and guidelines, thus ensuring quality care and supervision for your child.
  • Management Committee

In March, we hold our Annual General Meeting when a committee of parents is elected to be responsible for the financial running and management of the Centre.
Without a Management Committee, the centre cannot exist. The committee meets once a month and consists of a President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Officer and general members. Please let us know if you are interested in joining. Your help and support is very much appreciated.
  • Educators

DOCC is licensed to have 2O children in any one hour period, therefore we must meet a minimum adult/child ratio which is 1 adult to 5 children.
We have 4 educators per day and all fully trained in the child care industry with first aid certificates.
